Dinner and a Movie Final Picture

Piece Name: Opposing Diners

This piece was inspired by the movie Silence of the Lambs.

Artist's Statement:

This artwork portrays unsettling ideas with predictable undertones. Both sides of my piece are almost parallel to one another, showing conflicting but alike forces in opposition. The left side feels rushed, panicked, and desperate, and the right side is composed, unbothered, and prepared. The tiny tea set within a larger tea set communicates both predictability and unreliability through the concept of layers, pulling the viewer into a different world where they can perceive the natural as wholly unnatural. The knife, pointing its sharp edge against the panicked left side, symbolizes how the right side is winning. While both sides are similar, the backdrop of the symmetrical rug design suggests that both spaces are operating on the same, parallel terms, whether they acknowledge their sameness or not.
